English Wine Week Meets an Extraordinary Vintage from Biddenden Vineyards

English Wine Week is a celebration of the craftsmanship, innovation, and growth of the English wine industry, and few bottles embody that spirit more than Biddenden Ortega Late Harvest 2018.

Made from grapes harvested in the record-breaking 2018 summer, this is the UK’s sweetest wine to date, with a remarkable 122g/L of residual sugar. Limited in quantity, rich in complexity, and born of nearly five decades of winemaking heritage, it deserved packaging to match its legacy.

The Need

Biddenden Vineyards, Heart of England Garden, a family-run pioneer of English winemaking, was preparing to release something truly extraordinary: Ortega Late Harvest 2018.

With just a select number of bottles produced, the wine needed packaging that reflected its rarity, legacy, and the craft behind its creation. As a product intended for collectors, wine enthusiasts, and connoisseurs alike, the packaging had to offer more than just protection… It needed to tell a story.

“We needed a packaging style that reflected an individual sale,” shared Tom Barnes, General Manager and third-generation winemaker at Biddenden. “We naturally turned to the world of whisky and spirits for inspiration, and that’s how we discovered Clyde Presentation Packaging.

The brief was clear: the team at Clyde needed to produce a premium, collector-grade packaging solution that would honour the rarity of the wine, offer protection, and present it as the standout bottle it was.

How We Helped

We believe luxury packaging should enhance your product, not overshadow it. The goal was to create a presentation that celebrated the rich character of the wine while ensuring each bottle stood out as a legacy piece.

Working closely with the Biddenden team, we designed a navy-blue presentation tube and finished with gold embossed labelling, bringing an elegant, tactile experience to match the wine’s depth and history.

Simplicity in working with someone is the biggest issue we come across,” Tom explains. “We’re good at making wine. You’re good at packaging. Simon made things simple — he offered plenty of options and quickly homed in on what we truly needed to show off this unique product.

Key product features:

  • Tube Format: Unique to the market
  • Material: Durable board tube construction, ideal for shipping and display with sustainability credentials
  • Finish: Custom navy blue wrap to reflect the vineyard’s signature elegance, custom branding on top and bottom discs
  • Detailing: Gold foil embossed labelling, bringing a sense of prestige and warmth

Client Feedback

The result was a packaging solution that elevated the product visually and experientially, the packaging set a new benchmark for the vineyard’s presentation standards.

[This packaging] has certainly raised the bar for the product. Maybe 2025 will be the year for a repeat!

“We were recommended to you — and that recommendation proved to be spot on.”

Our team here at Clyde are proud to be part of a product’s journey, especially one as exceptional and history-making as this. We matched Biddenden’s craftsmanship with thoughtful, beautiful packaging that respects the wine’s legacy and tells its story before the cork is even pulled.
